Collaborating For A Sustainable Howe Sound / Atl'Kitsem
For A UNESCO Biosphere Region Designation

Imagine a Howe Sound where biodiversity is protected, people and companies benefit from a sustainable economy, and current and future residents and visitors are able to enjoy the region’s natural, cultural, and social resources.

Howe Sound (or Atl'Kitsem in the Squamish language) has the potential to be an outstanding model of sustainability and ecological health, providing a place for people to live, work, and play, now and in the future. Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative is working on an application to be nominated as a Biosphere Region, under the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Program.

Together we can make it happen. Help us create a Howe Sound Biosphere Region. Join the dialogue. Share your vision for a sustainable Howe Sound.

For the past 2.5 years hard work has been done on an initiative for Howe Sound to be designated by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, as a UNESCO Biosphere.  The Howe Sound deserves this recognition and having the designation would strategically influence future planning in the region. This is especially important in the absence of a comprehensive land and marine use plan for the Howe Sound region.

Please help us by either writing a cheque (made out to the Squamish River Watershed Society, PO Box 1791, Squamish, BC, V8B 0B3) or donate via PayPal. Tax receipts will be issued from the Squamish River Watershed Society on behalf of the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative.

If you have any questions, please contact us. Thank you!
