Starting the week of March 10th work will begin on replacing Culvert #2, approximately 1.2 km south of Fisherman's Entrance along the Squamish Training Berm. This will be the fourth of four culvert upgrades planned along the Training Berm to improve access between the Squamish River to the estuary for juvenile outmigrating Chinook salmon. This will also benefit other salmonid species as well as improve the overall health of the estuary. The work is being undertaken in partnership with Squamish Nation and Fisheries and Oceans Canada and will involve removing the existing twin corrugated steel pipe culverts that were installed by DFO in 1999 with a fish-passage friendly 3m x 3m concrete box culvert, consistent with the structures that replaced the other four locations. Work is planned to be wrapped up by May 31, 2025.
