Through the integration of community based environmental stewardship and education the Squamish River Estuary Program encourages participants to understand and appreciate the fundamental role that salmon play in our local ecosystem. The program is a key outcome of the Squamish Salmon Recovery Plan, designed in 2006 and has been evolving, and growing ever since. The River Estuary Program is a curriculum based k-7 program that incorporates a teacher training component to support in class environmental education, with classroom field days that are facilitated by community watershed leaders.
